The simplest and most effective way for dislikable people to become more accepted is for them to find a scapegoat. While computers are usually thought of as the antithesis of sociality and caring, understanding the value of conformity to social rules by technology has made computers and other machines more likeable, effective and persuasive. Indeed, we may be reaching the point at which our technologies are actually more socially effective than our colleagues.
It would be ironic if in the future, people will be turning to computers to learn how to win friends and influence people rather than the other way around.
